Surf Level

What’s My Surf Level?

To make sure you get the most out of your retreat, we use 5 simple surf levels – based on where you're at now, and where you're headed next.

Level 1 – Beginner

I know how to:

I'm surfing for the first time or still practicing in white water.

I want to learn how to:

Control my board, stand up safely (pop-up) and surf my first green waves.

Level 2 – Lower Intermediate

I know how to:

Get up and surf white water or unbroken waves.

I want to learn how to:

Paddle into the lineup by myself, catch unbroken waves, and surf both frontside and backside along the wave (taking direction); feel confident in waist-high waves.

Level 3 – Intermediate

I know how to:

Paddle out safely and surf unbroken waves frontside and backside.

I want to learn how to:

Do bottom and top turns on both sides in chest-high waves.

Level 4 – Upper Intermediate

I know how to:

Do bottom and top turns, both frontside and backside, in chest-high waves.

I want to learn how to:

Build up speed, link turns and do cutbacks back into the white water.

Level 5 – Advanced

I know how to:

Generate speed, combine maneuvers, and master controlled cutbacks.

I want to learn how to:

Surf steeper, more powerful waves, perform vertical maneuvers, and tackle barrels.
